Sempre Piano Studio offers many performing opportunities for students. The academic year concludes with a formal recital on the first weekend in June. There are optional performance opportunities through CFMTA, participation in the NCMTA Piano Performance Festival for intermediate and advanced students. SPS encourages students to experience the joy of live music by arranging group outings to NC Symphony concerts and local musical events.

Past Events:

The North Carolina Symphony & Wilmington Symphony concert series at the Wilson Center of Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington.

Other area concert series include the Chamber Music Wilmington, the Wilson Center, the Wilmington Ballet, and the Rivertown Players of New Bern.

Local Events include concerts at Coastal Carolina Community College, The Nutcracker ballet by Tchaikovsky performed by Dance Theatre of Jacksonville, NC Symphony Statewide Holiday Pops concert, and the Coastal Carolina Community Orchestra.

The students of SPS are talented and active in the local performing arts community. Their events are shared with the studio and we support one another by attending and enjoying their performances.

Cape Fear Music Teachers Association (CFMTA)

Cape Fear Music Teachers Association is the local chapter of the Music Teachers National Association. CFMTA is an active group of piano teachers in the Wilmington & Jacksonville areas. Events throughout the year include Piano Fun Day at UNCW, master classes with composers, professional pianists and pedagogues, and a CFMTA piano competition in May.

NCMTA Performance Festival

Intermediate and advanced level students are encouraged to participate in the NCMTA Performance Festival. From a pre-approved list, students select three pieces from three different musical periods, and then perform these pieces from memory for a judge. This event is held at UNCW in early March. There are four levels (Jr. A & B, Sr. A & B) and each level has four achievement ratings. For levels Jr. B, Sr. A & B, students earning a Highest Honors rating are eligible to compete at the state level competition at Meredith College.

The Performance Festival is rigorous, but extremely rewarding for students who participate.
